Star Wars and Spirituality

Standard

Quite recently, I re-watched the Star Wars films and realised just how spiritual they actually were! I always knew that they contained some Buddhist principles, but most of the spiritual wisdom has always gone straight over my head!

On this viewing, however, I picked up on every little nugget of spirituality. Things about meditation, living in the moment, letting go of fear and anger… it’s all there. Now that I’m more enlightened, I was able to recognise and understand every piece of advice given by the zen-like Jedi Order. And let’s not forget about The Force, the all-pervading spiritual energy that flows through everything and everyone… this blog is devoted to talking about this mystical power, something that I currently refer to as the divine source!

After re-watching the films, I decided to look up the Jedi religion and see if there was any more information on it. What I discovered was a website called http://www.templeofthejediorder.org, which lists the Jedi doctrines and maxims. I wasn’t surprised to see that most of this material was tied in with Buddhism and my own personal beliefs. In fact, I think that the Jedi religion aligns with my beliefs even more than Buddhism does, as it focuses so much on the divine energy that flows all around us.

There are currently thousands of Jedis all around the world, which I think is amazing! It’s not recognised as an official religion, but the fact that these people live by a spiritual code and work with the energy surrounding us is very commendable. I’m guessing that George Lucas must be a spiritual man himself if he embodied these Buddhist values and principles so deeply within the franchise! He has done a great justice to the world with making people aware of how things are.

My Discovery of Angels

Standard

Not so long ago, I did not believe in angels. In fact, I’m still slightly unsure as to their exact nature and purpose. Nonetheless, I have definitely been convinced that they exist.

I used to think that the angels were nothing more than spirituality’s answer for Gods. I was very sceptical of everything associated with them and decided to myself that they did not exist. In my eyes, there was only one higher power… the divine energy that flows through everything and everyone. Through meditation and the silencing of the mind, I connected frequently with the divine source, which drastically improved the quality of my life.

When people told me about the angels, I did not take much notice, because I did not want to worship or pray to higher entities. I thought that angels were just human versions of the divine source, much like the Gods of other religions. I simply did not picture God to be a human-like entity… I envisioned it to be more like Christianity’s Holy Spirit, or “the force” from Star Wars. An energy that flows through everything, connecting us all in every way.

But when I began to practice Reiki, everything changed. Firstly, my faith in energy healing was strengthened. And secondly, I sensed that other beings were joining in with the sessions…

Whether I was giving or receiving the energy, I felt something other than my connection to the divine source: ethereal hands that tickled my cheeks and nose, or handcuffed my wrists in the air, or a strong presence that sent a chill up my spine. I have experienced such things on many occasions now, and I quickly came to the conclusion that angels were responsible. When I called for their help during healing, they immediately made their presence known, strengthening my flow of energy and guiding my hands to where they needed to go.

Since then, I have realised that angels are not there to be worshipped like deities. They are here to help us, whenever we call upon them for help. There are many stories surrounding the nature of angels and other higher beings, but I remain quite dubious about them. For me, the background of the angels does not matter, only that they are here to help.
